Picture Perfect Wedding Day on San Juan Island

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Coho Restaurant closed for the public yesterday for two off-site weddings – one at the Harrison House and the second at Lakedale Resort. The outdoor wedding at Lakedale went off beautifully as mother nature provided the perfect setting for their special day. The Coho Creative Team prepared crab cakes, salmon mousse, spanikopita and a cheese and fruit plate for appetizers. Dinner included pork tenderloin with a fruit chutney, sesame encrusted salmon with a mirin ginger sauce, manicotti, grilled vegetables, a fresh garden salad along with our homemade bread and butter. The bride chose a tiered chocolate fudge cake with chocolate ganache and a rich chocolate frosting. The chocolate frosting provided a wonderful contrast to the white cascading roses and blue daisies. The groom’s cake, a more traditional white cake filled with whipped cream and fresh strawberries, was covered with Chantilly cream and decorated with white sweet heart roses and blue daisies. The lodge was transformed into a summertime day with vases of blue hydrangea and white and pink roses.

The wedding feast at the Harrison House was equally as beautiful. This couple was celebrating their private wedding ceremony that took place just over a week ago. They also enjoyed a fresh from the farm banquet that including local lamb and chicken and a couple vegan dishes including a rich butternut squash soup with coconut milk and a perfectly autumnal wild rice stuffed acorn squash. They toasted their marriage with champagne and a rich and creamy New York style cheese cake decorated with edible pink snap dragons and yellow roses.

We have to admit to being a bit exhausted this morning, particularly after getting up early to prepare or breakfast, but we are also exhilarated and satiated to have been able to play such an important role for these families and their new lives together.

After breakfast, with the distant memory of these two weddings, we were meeting with another couple to finalize their wedding banquet for next September. Coho is open tonight for regular service.
